Lighting Show

November 19, 2008
6:00 p.m.
At the intersection of 59th Street and 5th Avenue

This year the UNICEF Snowflake in New York City was lit on the eve of Universal Children’s Day, Wednesday, November 19. The evening's events were hosted by U.S. Fund for UNICEF President and CEO Caryl Stern, with a special performance by Broadway Kids Care and a visit by Sesame Street character Kami, friend of UNICEF. Grammy Award winning, multi-platnium artist, Rhianna, and Gucci Creative Director, Frida Giannini, were on hand to hlep light the UNICEF Snowflake. The night's event also included a musical performance by Grammy Award winning artist, Ne-Yo!


Friday Nights

November 28, 2008 — January 2, 2009
6 p.m. to 7 p.m. 

During the Snowflake season in New York City, UNICEF will host Friday Nights at the UNICEF Snowflake. This festive community gathering will take place each week at 6 p.m. on the corner of 57th Street and Fifth Avenue through January 2, 2009. Each week there will be a special guest as UNICEF volunteers pass out cookies for all to enjoy. 

It is a wonderful opportunity for New Yorkers and tourists to come together and take notice of the children around the world who need our help.

Lighting Show

Saturday, November 22, 2008
5:30 p.m.
On Rodeo Drive

The tradition of the New York lighting show will continue on Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills, California, where the ceremony highlights the City of Beverly Hills’ “Light the Night” annual holiday event. UNICEF Ambassador and lead vocalist for the band Good Charlotte, Joel Madden, will be joined by Nicole Richie to “flip the switch” and light the UNICEF Snowflake. This fun-filled event will begin with live entertainment by R&B pop artist Kreesha Turner and California natives "The 88".

 

Additionally, “Light the Night” will include family activities along Rodeo Drive, and the evening will conclude with a spectacular fireworks display. Festivities begin at 3:00 pm with the lighting ceremony beginning at 6:00 pm.

 

The UNICEF Snowflake Lighting is open to the public and the Snowflake will be illuminated for the entire holiday season serving as a beacon of hope, peace and compassion for children around the world.
